SEA-RAIL container volume at China's Ningbo-Zhoushan port has surpassed 1 million TEU in volume to date this year, a year-on-year increase of 8.6 per cent.
Currently, Ningbo-Zhoushan port is running over 100 sea-rail services to 16 provinces across China. The enhanced cooperation with hinterland cities greatly improves the sea-rail combined transported volume of the port, reports UK's Seatrade Maritime News.
In the first half, Ningbo-Zhoushan port posted a container volume of 17.68 million TEU, growing 1.2 per cent year on year. The sea-rail container throughput accounted for about 5 per cent of total volume at the port.
To improve container handling capacity, Ningbo-Zhoushan port temporarily opened up the No 9 berth for foreign trading, a 150,000 tonnes-class container berth which could berth boxships up to 200,000 tonnes-class, at Meishan port area this month.
